A barometer is constructed using a liquid (density = 760 kg/m3). What would be the height of the liquid column, when a mercury barometer reads 76 cm?

(density of mercury = 13600 kg/m3)

Given,ρl=760 kg/m3

ρHg=13600 kg/m3


Since barometer measures atmospheric pressure. So, in both cases, pressure will be the same.

⇒ρL×g×hL=ρHg×g×hH⇒760×hL=13600×76/100 =>hL=13.6m
